ring your old service provider. Explain that you have a new handset and want to give your old one (sic) to you friend who is on a different network. providing you had your old SIM for more than a year, your old service provider can unlock it over the phone for you.
You need to give them the IMEI number – *#06# on the handset. They can then generate the unlock code. You then have the put the phone into a maintenance mode – they will tell you how – enter the number and it’s unlocked.
Works for a K800i as well.
